Hodges University’s Online English Grammar Program is a sequential system for understanding English grammar patterns from basic to advanced skill levels. Our online program has been designed specifically for adult non-English speakers to understand grammar and speak English confidently.
This course is for individuals who need the flexibility of learning online, have access to a smartphone or mobile device, may be shy or embarrassed to communicate in a classroom or interpersonal environment, and/or want an ESL course designed to deliver quality online English lessons at an affordable price.
This is a non-degree-seeking course offered as part of the Hodges Connect Professional Education and Training Program, where we connect you with the employer demanded skills you need to succeed.
Advanced (Levels 7-9): English Grammar Online

Understand how to identify and use all simple, perfect, and progressive tenses, adjective and noun clauses, active and passive voice, and hypothetical conditions. Learn how to express necessity, possibility, probability, and hopes and wishes in all tenses and in a variety of scenarios. Additionally, learn about the rhythm and intonation of English speech to enhance comprehension and spoken fluency.

English Grammar Online Level 7: By the end of Level 7, students will be able to identify and understand all simple, perfect, and progressive tenses and noun clauses with all connecting words in varying positions. Practical Application videos include emphatic do and negative/tag questions, noun clauses and gerunds/infinitives as noun options, the importance of indirect questions in speech, and the complex but rarely used past and future perfect tenses.
English Grammar Online Level 8: By the end of Level 7, students will be able to identify and understand modal verb forms in all tenses, form and function of adjective clauses, and the active vs. passive voice. Practical Application videos include expansion of modals of necessity and possibility, the two forms of inversion, identifying adjective clauses, and analysis of passive voice.
English Grammar Online Level 9: By the end of Level 9, students will be able to identify and understand passive voice with modals, stative passive, active vs. passive causative forms, and forms and types of conditionals and wishes. Practical Application videos include analysis of rhythm and intonation of English speech, present vs. past participle adjectives, adjective clauses reduced to participle phrases, and usage and interpretation of hopes and wishes in practical interactions and situations.
